The Australian Financial Review: “A missed point” – letter by George Greenberg, 11 November 2009 (see below)

George Greenberg is wrong when he claims that the Palestinians refused an Israeli offer of “a state equal in area to the West Bank and Gaza, with a capital in East Jerusalem”.

According to the Israeli media, Ehud Olmert verbally made such an offer last year but refused to put anything in writing or hand over any maps.  The Palestinians did not reject it but indicated that they were willing to seriously discuss its details when Israel launched Operation “Cast Lead” against the Gaza Strip in December.

It is worth noting that Olmert made his offer as caretaker prime minister, after resigning over corruption charges.  Needless to say, no such offer has been made by his successor, Benjamin Netanyahu.
