Clashes erupt as Israeli forces raze two more homes in Jerusalem 18Nov09 November 19, 2009

Ma’an News Agency -  18 November 2009

Violent protests erupted between Jerusalem residents and Israeli troops on Wednesday as forces razed two houses and a garage in the Al-Bustan neighborhood in Silwan, East Jerusalem. The demolitions were the second and third of the day.

Seven Palestinians were injured and dozens of others assaulted as Israeli troops fired tear gas canisters at the growing crowd voicing dissent to the continued program of home demolitions in the neighborhood. Crowds gathered as Israeli bulldozers wrecked the homes, and protests began as the equipment moved on to the second building.

The destroyed buildings belonged to Khaled Ar-Ruweidi and Muhammad Awwad. They housed 18 people, who are all homeless as a result of the demolitions. The garage that was demolished was the property of Iyad Siyam.

Among the injured was homeowner Ar-Rueweidi, 45, and his relative Abbas Ar-Rueidi, 50.

The demolitions were the second and third of the day, and the fourth in two days. Earlier Wednesday Israeli bulldozers demolished a two-family Palestinian home in the town of Al-Isawiya in occupied East Jerusalem. On Tuesday, a four-family home owned by the Al-Husseini family was bulldozed and its 30 residents rendered homeless.
