SILENCE ON GAZA

As Christmas approaches, so does the one year anniversary of the 22 day assault on Gaza which killed 1400 Palestinians, injured over 5000 and made hundreds of Palestinians homeless once more. Sixteen aid and human rights groups have released a report highlighting the ongoing betrayal of the people of Gaza through the failure to end the blockade and siege, which has stymied any reconstruction efforts as this imprisoned traumatised population faces yet another bitter winter.

But nothing is colder than the world’s total indifference. Even the brave attempts of the UK led “Viva Palestina” activists driving an aid convoy to Gaza and the US led “Gaza Freedom March” that is bringing over 1000 internationals to a protest march on Gaza are sidelined by the world’s media that is content to bury what was and is still being done to the victims of war crimes. For war crimes were committed and the collective punishment of 1.5 million people of Gaza by the ongoing siege and blockade is itself an ongoing war crime which the whole world participates in by its silence.
