It was the recent killing in this town that prompted call to end use of live ammunition in West Bank June 28, 2009

The western Ramallah villages of Bil’in and Na’lin demonstrated as per usual this Friday as part of a collective Palestinian stand against the Israeli Wall and settlements that are encroaching and destroying the West Bank.
In Na’lin, where recently a member of the local nonviolent resistance was gunned down by Israeli soldiers, the march was launched yesterday amid slogans denouncing the building of the Wall on village land.
Hundreds of residents of the town were joined by as many international activists who come in droves each summer to support Palestinians in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip.
The occupying Israeli administration has confiscated at least 2,500 dunams of Na’lin land and in turn deprived 120 farmers their source of livelihood.
Salah Al Khawaja is a leader of the local nonviolent resistance and said today, “The government of Israel approved a law allowing for the confiscation of occupied land. Since 1948 more than 90 percent of the territory of the town of Na’lin has been confiscated.”
The demonstration began in the village square and moved to the area that has been confiscated for the Wall, which in this West Bank town is currently represented by a guarded fence.
Participants faced the extreme heat of the day to chant against Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s recent speech. Comments included that the remarks of two weeks ago “exceeded all international laws.” Protesters also said the speech was representative of “Israel’s disregard for the international community.”
Organizers of the Na’lin resistance said that they, and the rest of the Palestinian movement, will continue to defend the collective and individual rights of the people.
Confrontations between Israeli soldiers and Palestinian protesters continued for hours with five injuries and dozens downed by gas inhalation.
It was in response to the recent killing in Na’lin that prompted the Israeli organization working for Palestinian human rights, B’Tselem, to issue a call to the occupying Israeli military to cease using live ammunition at demonstrations in the West Bank.
