The Age:  “Britain fumes over ‘IsraeI hit squad’ ID theft” by Martin Evans and Gordon Rayner, The Age, 18 February 2010

As “Britain fumes over ‘IsraeI hit squad’ ID theft” (Feb 18, 2010) one can only wonder  who authorised this hit. Israel has openly used and admitted targeted assassinations to kill Hamas leaders in the occupied Palestinian territories and the current Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, already has form in the September 1997 attempted assassination of  Hamas leader Khalid Mishal in Jordan.  That these operations are highly illegal matters not as the end always justifies the means when it comes to Israel’s security.

But when will Israel see that it is jeopardising its own security by the continued oppression of the Palestinians, violation of their most basic human rights and theft of their land? The inability to address the core reason for the conflict – the injustice of dispossessing the Palestinians in order to create a state that prioritises Jewish Israelis over the indigenous
Palestinian inhabitants of the land indicates that a just peace is not what is sought. Rather subjugation of a people that to date have refused to concede their inalienable rights giving Israel the recognition it craves but which would be tantamount to conceding it was right of Israel to dispossess them.
