Fay Waddington (Qld) asks Prime Minister Kevin Rudd about Australia’s one-sided support for Israel 3Mar10 March 3, 2010

I seem to be a regular communicator with you despite the fact that is all one sided.  Undeterred I will continue my efforts.  Incidentally, I am also a Rudd via my maternal grandmother who was an English Jew from Cromer who converted to Catholicism.  I have occasionally wondered whether your comments that Israel was in your DNA had anything to do with a shared Jewish ancestor.  Or is it simply political savvy?  After all I can quickly list quite a few rich and influential Australian Jewish Zionists but cant name any rich and influential Australian Arabs (Muslim or Christian).

Anyway the reason for this latest communication is to ask you whether you have been made aware of the wonderful initiative by Australian Jewry.  It is their “Petition Against the Right of Return to Israel on behalf of Australian Jews”.  These signatories are just so brave and wonderful it makes me want to cry and hug them all if I could.  It takes a lot of courage to make a stand against your own religion, community and sometimes even family because you know something is wrong.  From what I can see Zionism is definitely wrong and a danger to world peace in my opinion.   The right of return, especially when it can be applied to people like me, is absurd.

After reading Jason Kautsoukis piece in the SMH of 27th February about ASIO investigating some Australians with Israeli and some even British passports as well, I managed to get a little line published in the next edition about how unfair it seems that citizens of Israel can have multiple passports yet the most of the Palestinians dispossessed in 1948 and 1967 and their descendants remain stateless refugees.  I wonder what Bonheoffer would have thought about that?  Anyway it seems that local enlightened Jewry has been thinking the same thing to come up with this latest initiative.  What do you think of the idea?

Regarding previous unanswered communication, just in case it got lost, I have been wondering
¡
Why did you deem it necessary to have a party for Israel on its 60th birthday in 2008?  We don’t seem to do it for other nations when they reach milestones.  Didn’t it cross your mind how upsetting it would be for Palestinians.
¡ Why did you send a contingent off to Israel for a cultural/trade visit so soon after the end of devastating Operation Cast Lead.
· Why did you never insist Julia Gillard retract her erroneous statement that “Hamas broke the ceasefire” in November 2008
¡ Why did you abstain when the Goldstone report came up in the UN?  Why would a Jew bring out such a damning report unless the facts were able to be corroborated?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Grand-daughter of Dinah Rudd
