Outpost

A group of Israeli settlers took over farmland in the village of Kafr Al-Labad, near Tulkarem, in the North of the West Bank on Wednesday. The settlers put up three tents where they are living in now, completely ignoring the pressure the US is mounting on Israel to freeze all settlement building activity.

The mayor told local media that “the municipal council along with local active organization will resist settlers and try all means to prevent confiscation of this land”.

He also speculated that Israel might later remove the outpost in an attempt to convince the world of its compliance with the US demands.

The move of the settlers doesn’t come as a big surprise, as in the preceding weeks settlers organizations have been stating that they will create at least 30 new outposts in the West Bank.

At the same time settlers have been busy with rebuilding the few outposts that were taken down by the Israeli authorities to show the international community a favorable image of the country.Certain outposts have already been demolished and rebuild several times, with the settlers pledging to keep rebuilding them. There are no signs that the situation is likely to change, as the Israeli authorities merely take the structures down, but do not act in any way to prevent the settlers from returning to the areas.
