Lavinia Moore (SA) writes Foreign Minister, Israeli ambassador, Israeli PM and UN Sec-General on Israel’s attack on Gaza flotilla 31May10 June 1, 2010

To:
The honourable Stephen Smith,
The honourable Yuval Rotem,
The honourable Benjamin Netanyahu
The honourable Ban Ki-Moon,

Today Israel has attacked unarmed civilians outside of their territorial waters. These people were part of a convoy carrying humanitarian aid for the Palestinian people in besieged Gaza.
This is an act of warlike aggression, one that is prohibited by international law.
I ask that the U.N. and all members of that body to call for an emergency session of the Security Council and the General Assembly in order to pass resolutions that will initiate action against Israel consistent with the rule of international law and to make it absolutely clear that such criminal action will not be tolerated or condoned.
I ask that such action be taken with urgency. The world can no longer permit Israel’s oppression of the Palestinian people and persecution and killing of those who seek to speak up for their rights and offer them assistance.
