So Israel is going to investigate itself and set the terms of reference of the investigation, which will apparently not include any testimony from the people involved – the Israeli soldiers and the peace activists. The two foreign observers will be observers only with no say in the matter. And this is what they call a “transparent independent investigation”, which of course the US and the spineless international community will accept as fair and reasonable. Sounds like another ploy to get Israel of the hook.
Meanwhile the Goldstone report languishes on some shelf as war crimes against the Palestinians continue on a daily basis as they are collectively punished by the ongoing siege and blockade. The only moral response to this travesty of justice is the total lifting of the siege and blockade not an “easing”, which would only allow the crime to go on indefinitely but at a slower pace. Ending the illegal occupation would also reduce Israel’s so-called security problems as would ending its ongoing colonisation and apartheid policies that continue to oppress Palestinians and deny them their freedom and human rights.
