Lavinia Moore (SA) responds to “Israel set to ease Gaza blockade” Adelaide Advertiser 18Jun10 June 18, 2010

I refer to the item on page 75: ‘Israel set to ease Gaza blockade’

Israel’s actions smack of self-interest in the face of growing international criticism of their illegal and inhumane actions.  But it is too little, too late. What is needed is a complete removal of the illegal and inhumane blockade of Gaza.

I wonder, if in the face of this week’s conviction of Somali men for piracy in international waters, they may also feel the need to avoid that fate for their pirates in the Mediterranean, and decide that they will not attack and hijack the next humanitarian aid ship sailing for Gaza.

As I doubt that Israel will obey international laws of the seas any more than they will obey other laws that apply to all the world’s states regarding illegal use of passports, maybe we, the rest of the world who believe that international laws count for something ought to finally take action and apply sanctions to this rogue state.
