RUSSELL TRIBUNAL ON PALESTINE: We need your support! July 18, 2010
A few months after the Barcelona session of the Russell Tribunal on Palestine we are looking to the future. And the future is London.
The Barcelona session considered the obligations and failings of the EU. The London session, which will take place in November, will focus on âCorporate Complicity in Israelâs Violations of International Lawâ.
Thanks to the effort of everyone involved the Barcelona session was a great success. Those three days were fantastic: media interest in Spain was outstanding and the feedback from participants we receive every day is hugely encouraging. The juryâs findings are available here .
Our goal is that the London session should be even better.
New jury members who are prominent people (John Dugard has just confirmed that he will act) will add yet more prestige to an already fantastic cast ((Michael Mansfield QC, Aminata Traore, Cynthia McKinney, Mairead Maguire, Ronnie Kasrils, Judge Martin Pallin, Gisele Halimi and Judge Juan Guzman).
For this session to be a success we shall need everyoneâs support. We must raise ÂŁ80,000 by November. âŹ55,000 has already been promised; money raised largely in France and Belgium. The rest we are expecting to raise at âgrassrootsâ level in the UK and in Continental Europe. Given we cannot expect to receive grants from governments or large NGOs we must depend solely on the generosity of individuals.
Our hope is that the Russell Tribunal on Palestine can be used as a tool for the benefit of a justice-centered future where human rights are universal and justice restored. The âPalestine questionâ is not a local but rather an international one; the issues it raises universal in nature. The Palestinians can wait no longer; they need our help now.
