Turkey welcomes Israeli inquiry into flotilla raid 3Aug10 August 4, 2010

Turkish officials called Israel’s decision to cooperate with a UN probe into the death of nine civilians aboard a Turkish-flagged vessel an “important step,” on Monday, following the announcement.

Israel had initially called the UN probe an example of UN bias against Israel and said internal probes would be sufficient. The UN investigation was mandated by the Human Rights Council on 2 June in an emergency session, two days after Israeli forces commandeered six ships in international waters.
