The Age: “Israeli army in new ‘trophy’ pictures claim” by Jason Koutsoukis, 19 August 2010

The ‘trophy’ pictures posted on Facebook by a former Israeli soldier is yet another indicator of the corrupting influence of Israel’s occupation of Palestine and its people. It is hardly surprising that ordinary Israeli soldiers display such total disregard for Palestinian human rights when the state they serve violates Palestinian human rights on a daily basis and has done so for the last six decades. Growing up in a culture that denies, and is blind, to its own wrongdoing can only corrupt the moral fabric of that society.

The ongoing below the radar ethnic cleansing of Palestinians to sever their ties to their homeland is part of this daily violence the state of Israel metes out to Palestinians. This is rarely reported yet today whole Palestinian families (not terrorists) are being made homeless and landless in East Jerusalem, the Jordan Valley and the Negev because of Israeli government policies and no-one dares call Israel to task. While the photos in question are scandalous what is far more shocking is that far greater human rights violations which are state sanctioned are tolerated by a complicit world content to look the other way.
