The Australian: “Creativity and realism required for success in Middle East talks” by Colin Rubinstein, 3 September 2010

For Israel, peace is the absence of violence.  Whilst that is a significant beginning, it certainly does not resolve the issue of Palestine/Israel conflict. Colin Rubenstein’s ‘creativity and realism’ spiel (Creativity and realism required for success in Middle East talks, 03/09) is completely baseless.  His myopic view that Israel equals right and Palestine equals wrong is clearly demonstrated when he refers to Abbas as “[o]n the negative side” and Netanyahu “on the Israeli side”.  Attempts to delegitimise and dehumanise the Palestinians and their right to seek freedom, justice and self determination cannot be erased by mealy-mouthed slogans such as those offered by Rubenstein and co.
