Jewish activists to sail to Gaza to break blockade 16Sep10 September 17, 2010
Palestine Note -Â 16 September 2010
An organization of European Jews has announced that it wants to sail an aid ship to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza. The organization refused to disclose its port of departure.
Kate Katzenstein-Leiterer, a leader of the German Jewish Voice organization, said the trip was being managed by the British Group Jews for Justice for Palestinians (JfJfP), Haaretz daily reported.
Katzenstein-Leiterer also said that the boat was ready to depart and Jewish activists were âon boardâ.
The British group claimed on its website that âthe boat preparations are proceeding in readiness for the passage to the final port, from where the boat will depart to Gaza.â
They added: âThe boat now has a full inventory of safety equipment, including global systems of communication, and thus has the capacity to trigger pre-prepared safety bulletins from London at a momentâs notice, for both the crewâs safety and the success of the mission.â
The Jewish Chronicle online reported that British sailor Glyn Secker of JFJFPÂ has previously said he will captain the ship. He said it would show “not all Jews support Israel and say emphatically: not in our name”.
Nine people were killed on May 31 when Israeli naval forces boarded ships in aid flotilla that was headed toward the Gaza Strip.
Thank You.
