Stewart Mills (NSW) responds to Koutsoukis’ “Peace talks at risk as settlements resume” SMH, 28Sep10 September 28, 2010
The Sydney Morning Herald: “Peace talks at risk as settlements resume” by Jason Koutsoukis, 28 September 2010
The Netanyahu government of Israel continues to defy international law and international demands to end settlement expansion (âPeace talks at risk as settlements resumeâ, 28 September). What are the consequences? Nothing. For how long has this been going on? 43 years.
How will history judge people like Rudd and Gillard on this issue of settlements? Just another line of timid politicians who preferred appeasement to confronting those who allow religious fanatics to dictate a Greater Israel expansionist policy.
How can we respond when our politicians remain silent? Put more pressure on our politicians and support a boycott of settler products; a boycott that has the backing of the National Council of Churches in Australia and the World Council of Churches (a call made since 2001). How will action groups that call for a boycott of settler products be judged in the future? A positive example of how religion can be used to stand up for justice and security for all people in this Holy Land, for Jewish-Israeli, Palestinian-Israeli and Palestinians living under occupation.
