Ma’an News Agency -  5 January 2011

EL-ARISH, Egypt (Ma’an) — A Libyan convoy arrived Wednesday at Egypt’s El-Arish airport carrying 80 tons of medical aid for the Gaza Strip, Egyptian security sources said.

Officials said a delegation of 27 Libyan activists joined the cargo. Egyptian authorities and the Red Crescent unloaded a plane-full of goods, transferring the goods onto trucks to be delivered to Gaza via the Rafah crossing.

On Tuesday, Egyptian officials transferred 10 truckloads of aid from the Asia 1 convoy into the coastal enclave through the same crossing.

The aid convoy, backed by nations in Southeast Asia, drove from India to Syria and sailed for Egypt, bringing medical aid.

Egypt allowed 112 activists from the Asia 1 to enter the Strip, where they were greeted by Gaza government Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh.
