The Age: “Peace hopes covered in hotel’s rubble” by Jason Koutouskis, 15 January 2011

Those justifying the demolition of the historic Shepherd Hotel in East
Jerusalem to make way for yet more illegal Israeli colonisation display a
blatant disregard for international law and show a very one-sided use of
legal justification.  The fact is that East Jerusalem is not Israel’s
sovereign territory as was reaffirmed by the 2004 International Court of
Justice ruling on the illegality of the Separation Wall…and yet we are
continually told otherwise.

It is not just about “this very small building” that people are outraged but
the six decades of the systematic ongoing ethnic cleansing and oppression of
the Palestinian people through Israel’s apartheid policies that is making
peace well nigh impossible. The shameless illegal settlements are a physical
testament to Israel’s attitude to the Palestinian people and the disregard
for their inalienable rights to the land and the absolute failure of the
world to address this monumental injustice.
