Israeli Foreign Ministry implementing plans to legitimise occupation of the West Bank 25Feb11 February 26, 2011

The Palestinian Information Center -  25 February 2011

The deputy Israeli Foreign Minister, Dani Ayalon, said that every Israeli ambassador appointed by the Foreign Ministry must visit the Ibrahimi Mosque in al-Khalil as well as other “Jewish heritage sites” in the West Bank.

Ayalon added that he views such visits as educational to Israeli ambassadors and diplomats so that they can prove to everyone around the world that the Israeli presence in the West Bank is a “legitimate right”.

The Yediot Ahronoth said on Thursday that this step reflects a new policy being followed by the Foreign Ministry and approved by Avigador Lieberman, the Israeli Foreign Minister.

The paper added that the diplomats will be guided by Jewish settlers of Keryat Arba’.

The Minister of Education, Gideon Sa’ar, had earlier instructed high schools to organise trips to organize visits to historic places in the West Bank, with the Ibrahimi Mosque topping the list of such places.
