Israel set to close Gaza crossing completely 26Feb11 February 27, 2011

Ma’an News Agency -  26 February 2011

Israeli officials plan to completely shut down Gaza’s bulk goods Karni crossing in two weeks for “security reasons,” the official Israeli news agency reported Friday.

Israeli officials told Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean Assleborn that they decided to shut down the terminal, according to a report that appeared in Arabic on the Israel Broadcasting Authority website.

Large chutes for wheat, animal feed and gravel will be moved to the southernmost Kerem Shalom terminal.

The coordinator of Israeli government activities in the Gaza Strip Eitan Dangot told Assleborn that Israel okayed construction of 20 schools in Gaza in 2010 in addition to 120 projects funded by international donors.

He added, “Israel allows entry of construction material into Gaza after making sure the structures set to be built are not close to structures belonging to Hamas.”
