Palestinians call on world to intervene as Israel escalates Gaza attacks 21Mar11 March 22, 2011

The Palestinian Information Centre -  21 March 2011

The Palestinian government in Gaza has called upon international organizations to intervene as Israel increases aggression on the Gaza Strip.

”The government has sent urgent messages to the UN and Arab League Secretary-Generals and to a few European Union nations revealing serious Israeli escalation plans against the Gaza Strip, asking them for immediate intervention to stop the current escalation,” said Dr. Yousef Rizqa, political advisor to Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haneyya.

Rizqa said in a press statement that he is concerned over the “crazy and serious” escalation that is aimed at thwarting recent moves towards Palestinian reconciliation.

”Israel has accused [Palestinian] factions of bombing Israeli settlements as a pretense, but this is virtual and not real or substantial,” Rizqa said.

He said the escalation was “influenced and indirectly linked to the movement of change in Arab countries, which are anti-Israeli occupation movements.”

“Israel is trying to send a message to Hamas, the Palestinian reconciliation and countries in the Arab region that support Palestinian rights, particularly the new Egypt, through the military escalation. Livni has said in a recent statement that she calls on the Israeli government to destroy Hamas before anti-Israeli changes become stabilized as a proactive step.”
