The Age:  Goldstone rejects Israeli allegation” by Jason Koutsoukis, 7 April 2011

Justice Richard Goldstone appears to be doing yet another U-turn this time
rejecting Israeli claims that he had agreed to rescind the United Nations
report on Israel’s conduct in Operation “Cast Lead”.

This does more damage to his credibility than to the report, which was
undermined by the airing of his earlier misgivings and claimed by Israel to
be tantamount to a retraction of his report. This is  especially so as the
other authors of the report stand by its findings.

The investigations that Israel has carried out since, which he claims would
have produced a different report, have been seriously questioned by the
follow-up UN Committee Report chaired by Judge Mary McGowan Davis, finding
them to be lacking in impartiality, promptness and transparency.

And his acceptance of the outcome of one of them into the killing of 29
members of the al-Samouni family as a “mistake” leaves a further 1371
killings and 5000 injuries, not to speak of the conduct of that operation
which saw the use of white phosphorus, human shields and the indiscriminate
destruction on a massive and disproportionate scale for which Israel is yet
to be brought to account.
