An uplifting Refugee Week event and fundraiser for a Kindergarten in the South Hebron hills, the Festival of Friendship is a cultural event highlighting the ongoing Palestinian refugee crisis and raising funds for a much needed pre-school in the South Hebron Hills. The festival is hosted by Leichhardt Friends of Hebron.
Again in 2011 an exhibition of photographs will be central to our event which also  features a vibrant indoor market and cafe, live music, a film, and a forum on the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign.
â 12 midday Doors open for stalls, coffee and to preview the exhibition
â1pm Official opening and launch of the photography exhibition Palestine to Remember at 1pm with music performances and and welcoming words from the Mayor of Leichhardt and Samah Sabawi from Australians for Palestine;
â3pm Join us at to watch our feature film âReturn to Gazaâ. The film is a documentary following the journey of Australian Fetah Sabawi, from Melbourne, who took his wife and child back to Gaza with him in 2006 where they visited his family and started a music school for young Palestinian refugees. The movie follows Fetahâs personal journey to the Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza searching for peace as he encounters checkpoints, the Israeli Occupation Forces and attacks from the air on Gaza;
â 4.30 pm Stay with us for the afternoon to attend the forum on Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions  - speakers include Peter Slezak, philosopher and member of Independent Australian Jewish Voices; Samah Sabawi, from Australians for Palestine and Joseph Wakim, founder of the Arabic Australian Council. The forum will be moderated by Peter Manning, senior lecturer at Monash University;
â 6pm â 8pm Donât run away! We have live Middle Eastern music and delicious food for you. End the night listening to  great music to celebrate the achievements of Leichhardt Friends of Hebron and the work done in raising funds for some of the most impoverished and marginalized children in Palestine and so ensuring their inalienable right to education.
