The Australian: “Tutu is wrong on Israel boycott”, editorial, 8 June 2011

Your editorial “Tutu is wrong on Israel boycott” is a desperate attempt to sway public opinion against the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions movement, which grows stronger day by day. The archbishop knows, better than anyone, the similarities between the old South Africa and present-day Israel in terms of human rights abuses inflicted upon the respective indigenous populations.

Israel, under Netanyahu’s extreme right-wing government, is moving towards fascism, with all its attendant racism. Read the Israeli press for confirmation of this. No amount of falsehoods, whitewashing and disimulation by your newspaper can disguise the dreadful abuses suffered by Palestinians who have suffered 44 years of military occupation.

Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions is working, despite the enormous pressure brought to bear by reactionary vested interests, because decent people and honourable institutions and organisations are doing what is right. You swim against the tide.
