LATEST UPDATE ON AUSTRALIAN CONTINGENT (Sylvia Hale) Apparently the Greek Coastguard tried to board the ship and seize the log book, which would have prevented the ship from going anywhere. We’ve had people on board 24 hours a day in shifts to prevent sabotage. The people on this shift prevented the Coastguard from seizing anything an…d he is now being stopped from leaving the boat. The Greek govt, presumably under pressure from the Israeli and US govts, has issued an order that no boat is to be allowed to set sail for Gaza, no matter which flag the boat is sailing under. The “Tahrir” is sailing under the Comoro flag – an island in the Indian ocean. We believe the Greek Govt’s actions are illegal. We are now intending to sail to another port, not Gaza.

Other than those staying at the boat with the coastguard, members of all delegations have just staged a noisy march through St Nicholas, the village in Crete where the boat is anchored and we’ve been staying for the last 10 days. We marched through the streets chanting ‘We want to go to Gaza’, ‘Free our boat’, and ‘Shame on Papandreou’, to the offices of the Coastguard, where we demanded reasons for the constant obstruction the Tahrir has faced. The officer in charge refused speak to us, the owners of the boat, saying she would only speak to the captain .
