Alice Beauchamp writes to Greek Ambassador re Gaza Flotilla held in Greece 3Jul11 July 4, 2011

Dear Ambassador,

I am a long-standing admirer of your country, the cradle of democracy & champion of Human Rights, with friends there after many visits. So now I am perplexed & troubled at the current actions of Greece against the Gaza flotilla.

As you know, the crew & passengers are peaceful idealists, who are, at  great personal sacrifice & expense (with donations from supporters), wanting to bring to Gaza the well-wishes & solidarity from the world. The ships have been certified sea-worthy, & thrown open to wide inspection that carrying no weapons of any kind.

We realize, that Greece is undergoing great financial difficulties & unrest against the stringent austerity measures. That may make it difficult to resist heavy pressure from stronger countries while needing large financial loans. But that must not allow failure to adhere to principle or to engage in illegal acts at the behest of those powers.

Please use your good offices to urge your Government to change course, & hear the pleas of the passengers to “Let my people go”.
