The recent vote by the Liberal & Labor parties to condemn the Marrickville boycott of Israeli products demonstrates why the Greens are attracting votes from liberal & progressive people in Australia.
While the Tweedledee & Tweedledum of Australian politics are subservient to the same vested political & economic powers, The Greens provide an independent, rational & principled voice in our Parliament.
The boycott of Israel is not a fringe activity. It is supported by the World Council of Churches, Bishop Tutu & Nelson Mandela amongst many others.
It is interesting that the same people who opposed boycotts against the apartheid regime in South Africa also oppose boycotts against the racist policies of Israel. One day, like John Howard on apartheid, they will have to wear the disgrace of being on the wrong side of history yet again.
In September, The United Nations is due to vote on the recognition of a Palestinian state. Most of the 195 members are expected to support this. Like a true vassal state, I presume Australia will vote with its American & Israeli masters.
Thank You.
