Mike Griffin (NSW) writes to FM Kevin Rudd re two women detained in Israel 13Jul11 July 13, 2011

Dear Mr Rudd,

I was dismayed, but not at all surprised, to learn today that two Australian citizens, Sylvia Hale and Vivienne Porzolt, have been detained by the Israeli authorities in Tel Aviv and have been denied their right to visit friends in Israel and the illegally Occupied Palestinian Territories. I would like to know what you and your office are doing to reassure the Australian people that the Australian government supports the right of Australian citizens to visit friends in Palestine without being arrested and deported by the Israeli government. I also want your assurance that your government supports the right of Palestinians to receive visitors from overseas without facing harassment and deportation by the Israeli authorities. And finally, I do hope that you will, for once, stand up for the rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people by making a public statement in support of these two highly respected Australians, one of whom is, as you will be aware, a retired NSW Member of Parliament and the other a spokesperson for the respected Jews Against the Occupation group in Sydney.

I look forward to your response to the above issues as a matter of urgency. It’s time to stand up for justice and peace for Palestinians.
