Dr Patrick Wolfe (Vic) writes to The Age re Minister O’Brien’s attack on BDS activists 8Aug11 August 8, 2011

Victorian Consumer Affairs Minister Michael O’Brien asserts that: ‘to think you are going to influence the Government of Israel by attacking a business running in this state is just appalling’. Mr O’Brien should know that, when all appeals to human rights and international law had fallen on deaf ears, the international campaign that eventually helped the African National Congress to bring the racist regime in apartheid South Africa to its knees was precisely the kind of non-violent, legitimate, consumer-led international boycott that the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement is mounting today. BDS is committed to helping Palestinians and anti-Zionist Israelis to bring the colonial regime in Israel to heed the requirements of international law and put an end to its racist refusal to acknowledge the human rights of the Palestinian people whom it has dispossessed and continues to persecute.
