VIDEO: Women die waiting – Breast Cancer in the Gaza Strip 26Sep11 October 4, 2011

Women Die Waiting for breast cancer treatment in the Gaza Strip, largely due to late detection and the blockade that prevents appropriate treatment being available.

The supply of chemotherapy drugs inside Gaza is unreliable, and radiotherapy is simply not available. Surgery is a woman’s only option, and if the cancer has spread, it’s not enough. The process to get permits to leave Gaza to go to surrounding countries is lengthy, and as a result, women die waiting.

Anglicord is working to support breast clinics through the Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza, so that women’s breast cancers can be detected earlier, they can be referred for treatment earlier, and their chances of survival increased. We are also advocating for a streamlined process for women to leave Gaza for appropriate treatment, and for chemotherapy drugs as well as all drugs on the WHO Essential Medicines list to be available within Gaza.

Join our campaign, so that women in Gaza don’t have to wait any longer.
