Arrest of Ahmad Abu Hasham in early dawn raid, Beit Ummar 12Oct11 October 12, 2011

IMEMC  -  11 October 2011

Israeli forces arrested Abu Hasham, secretary of the Popular Committee Against the Wall and Settlements, along with his son Yousef, age 18, in Beit Ummar early Tuesday morning, the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) reported.

The raid occurred as dawn broke over the southern West Bank town of Beit Ummar, just north of Hebron. Committee spokesperson, Mohammad Awad, informed WAFA of the incident, indicating that Ahmad and his sons were beaten, with Yousef suffering multiple bruises. Army trained dogs were also used, causing the family much dismay, according to this report.

The incursion produced a fast response from fellow residents of Beit Ummar, who clashed with the soldiers. No injuries were reported.

Whilst the arrest drew on the Israeli Army resources, and was conducted in the early hours, Abu Hasham was held only briefly and released after a few hours.
