The European Union (EU) has criticized Israel’s demolition of Palestinian structures in the West Bank, calling on Tel Aviv to re-examine its policies on the occupied territories.

“Since the year 2000 more than 4,800 Palestinian houses and structures have been demolished” in the West Bank, the bloc announced in a Thursday statement, adding, “The EU has called on Israel to review its policy and planning system in order to allow for the socio-economic development of the Palestinian communities.”

The statement further said, “The EU missions in Jerusalem (al-Quds) and Ramallah regret the recent demolition of a mosque in the village of Khirbet Yarza,” noting that Israel has razed three mosques over the past year.

On Tuesday, Israeli forces razed a mosque in Khirbet Yarza, a Bedouin community near Tubas in the Jordan Valley.

According to the UN reports, Israel demolished 180 Palestinian structures, including 56 residential buildings, in 2009.
