UN OCHA Report: “Settler attacks increased by 40% during 2011” 14Nov11 November 14, 2011

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), reported that, compared to 2010, this year witnessed a 40% increase in attacks carried out by Israeli settlers against the Palestinian, leading to dozens of injuries among the Palestinian residents, and property damage.

The OCHA reports revealed that three Palestinians, including two children, were killed in by Israeli settlers in 2011, and that 167 were injured.

101 Palestinians were injured by Israeli soldiers and policemen during clashes between Israeli settlers and local Palestinian residents.

Israeli settlers also uprooted more than 10.000 Palestinian Olive Trees in 2011.

Israeli settler violations, including home take-over, led to the displacement of 127 Palestinians.

According to the report, 8 Israeli settlers have been killed, and 30 others were injured by Palestinians in 2011, comparing to five killed and 43 injured during the same period in 2010.

Furthermore, settlers uprooted and cut nearly 10.000 Palestinian trees, mainly olive trees, significantly undermining the livelihoods of hundreds of families, OCHA added.

Settler attacks also led to the displacement of 127 Palestinians in different Palestinian areas.

Palestinian residents filed dozens of complaints to the Israeli police after being attacked by settlers, but the Police closed nearly %90 of the complaints without an indictment.

OCHA further reported that more than 80 Palestinian communities, inhibited by 250.000 Palestinians are vulnerable to settler violence, including 76.000 Palestinians who are considered at high risk.

This report is only regarding settler attacks and violations and does not include casualties of Israeli military violence against the Palestinians.
