Generally speaking, when one wants to ‘rid’ themselves of something, the reference is usually to a pest – and this is ordinarily done by extermination. So when Greg Sheridan proclaims that “The vast majority of Israelis would love to be rid of the Palestinians and their territories” (Territorial compromise loses ground in Arab Spring, 12/01) his description is not only disgusting, he again demonstrates his inability to report on Israel/Palestine with any impartiality.
His love affair with Israel sees him visit their regularly under the auspices of any number of Zionist (read anti-Palestinian) groups here in Australia. This ongoing demonisation and dehumanisation of Palestinians is a regular feature of his writings. Interestingly, this is counter to the perception of Palestine and Palestinians that many independent polls have shown.
