Dr Vacy Vlazna (NSW) writes to the High Commissioner of India commending India’s support of Palestinian rights 18Feb12 February 18, 2012

Your Excellency

With regard to the article, India’s support for Palestinians a mistake: Israel,  I wish to encourage the Government of India to stand fast by its principled support of Palestinian  human and political rights including Palestine’s right to become a member of the United Nations.

Minister Landau’s comments in the article are typical of the official hasbara ie  propaganda of lies promoted by the Israeli government.

Countering Landau, it is Israel that has no honour in  fulfilling agreements. Israel agreed that Palestine would be a viable state after 5 years interim self-rule  when signing  the Oslo Accords. That was 19 years ago and in that time  Israel has accelerated its colonial settlement building and land theft in the OPT in blatant violation of international law.

It’s true that Landau’s comment that a Palestinian  UN membership would  make peace ‘complicated’ – however, not for Palestinians but only for Israel which has been sabotaging the peace process for decades.

Ask Palestinian families impoverished and rendered homeless whether Landau’s statement that the settlement issue has never been a problem.

I am  certain that India’s support of Palestine’s right to independence comes from  India’s own struggle for independence from a  brutal and rapacious British occupation which was hard won by Indian determination and blood.
