I am just writing to commend you for your article in the Canberra Times on the need for a JUST peace in the Holy Land. There are too many people in our government and in other Western governments and bodies who talk endlessly of ‘peace’, yet do nothing to create the conditions of fairness and respect that could create it.
Worse than that, by their faint words of condemnation for Israel’s ongoing atrocities against the Palestinians, they legitimise Israel’s Zionist project and its fundamental conflict with human rights and international law.
I particularly support your call on Bob Carr to make a stand on this ‘issue’ while he is in a position to. He could well begin by calling for the immediate release of Hana before she dies from her hunger strike at the hands of her ruthless captors.
Sadly it has to be said that there is little chance of any words other than weasel words from the new foreign minister when Julia Gillard has shown herself repeatedly to be in thrall to Israel’s horrific vision for the future of the Holy Land.
