The Palestine Information Centre - 29 March 2012
NEW YORK, (PIC)– UN coordinator for the middle east peace process Robert Serry demanded an appropriate solution to the case of Palestinian female hunger striker Hana Shalabi in line with the position of the UN on the administrative detention in Israel.
Serry made his remarks in a session held by the UN security council members on Wednesday to discuss the situation in the middle east.
The UN official stated that the situation of Palestinian prisoners in Israel’s detention centers remains a matter of deep concern.
He highlighted the issue of female hunger striker Hana Shalabi and demanded Israel to release her since her health condition deteriorated and became life-threatening, adding that Israel should consider the UN position regarding the need for not using administrative detention but in exceptional cases.
Serry stressed the need for releasing Palestinian prisoners if no charges were leveled against them in a court of law.
Thank You.
