EDITOR’S COMMENT: The Freedom Theatre has staged a powerful portrayal of George Orwell’s classic masterpiece “Animal Farm” in the Jenin Refugee Camp, Palestine reminding Palestinians of the human frailties that threaten their aspirations for freedom, peace and a better future for all even after the brutal occupier is overthrown.  As is tellingly pointed out in the video, “they talk about ‘me’ not ‘we’; we lost the ‘we’, we don’t have ‘we’ in Palestine, we just have ‘me’.   And someone else comments, “the play is a warning . . . if we don’t follow our principles and our political stands, we’ll end up killing each other, persecuting, charging and imprisoning each other and locking each other up.”  The Palestinians in the Diaspora are no less vulnerable to these weaknesses as they too talk about ‘me’ and not ‘we’ and agree to compromise who and what they are to be accepted, often realising too late that they are acquiescing in the language of the oppressor.   And all the while, Palestine is slipping further and further away, truly in danger of disappearing forever.  – SK
