GAZA, (PIC)– A six-year-old Palestinian child was killed in an Israeli artillery shelling of Abassan to the east of Khan Younis, south of the Gaza Strip, on Saturday.

The PIC reporter said that the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) fired a number of artillery shells at the Ruwad playground instantly killing Mutaz Shawaf and injuring a number of other civilians.

The IOF escalated military aggression on the Gaza Strip since the early morning hours on Saturday and launched a series of air raids on its northern and southern areas that wounded about 20 citizens while on Friday two were killed and three were injured.

Security sources said that one of the raids targeted buildings in downtown Gaza wounding eight citizens, including four security men, smashing the windows of many houses and shops, and damaging a big number of cars.

They said that another raid targeted a position for the Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, to the east of Jabaliya north of Gaza Strip, wounding ten citizens living near to the position.

The reporter said that a third raid targeted another position for the Qassam Brigades on Deir Al-Balah coast in central Gaza injuring a passerby.

IOF soldiers opened random artillery fire at the eastern area of the Strip especially eastern Rafah, south of the Strip, while Israeli gunboats bombarded fishing boats.

Meanwhile, Hebrew media said that an Israeli man sustained moderate to serious wounds on Saturday morning when a Palestinian resistance rocket blasted near his home in the western Negev.

The Palestinian resistance factions responded to the ongoing Israeli aggression by firing a number of locally made rockets at Israeli targets adjacent to the Gaza Strip.

The Hamas armed wing said in a statement that it would respond to any violation of the Egyptian-mediated calm.
