RAMALLAH (Ma’an) — The Swedish government has decided to release the Palestinian Authority from a $28 million loan dating back to 1999, the PA finance minister said Monday.

Minister Nabil Qassis applauded the Swedish government. “The Palestinian people appreciate the Swedish political and economic support to the PA, which helps build future state institutions,” he said in a statement.

The Swedish government had granted the PA a returnable loan in 1999 to fund an electricity project in the Gaza Strip.
