Group of Arab States call on UNSC to take action against Israel 17Oct12 October 17, 2012
Press TV Â – Â 16 October 2012
The Group of Arab States in the United Nations has called on the UN Security Council (UNSC) to act on Israelâs violation of human rights against the Palestinian people.
“The Arab Group deplores the continuous Israeli violations against the Palestinian population in the occupied Palestinian territory, including the blockade, aerial bombardments and extrajudicial killings,â said a Monday statement read out by the Egyptian permanent representative to the United Nations Mootaz Ahmadein Khalil.Â
Addressing the UNSC in an open meeting on the latest developments in the Middle East, particularly the issue of Palestine, Khalil reiterated that the aggressions against the people of Palestine by Israeli settlers has âreached unprecedented levels.âÂ
Israeli settlers, mostly armed, regularly attack Palestinian villages and farms and set fire to their mosques, olive groves and other properties in the occupied West Bank under the so-called âprice tagâ policy. However, the Tel Aviv regime rarely detains the assailants.
“The desecration of Christian and Muslim shrines in the occupied territories including the recent ‘price tag’ attacks against churches and the storming of al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem this month, deserve special attention,â Khalil said.Â
âThe recent threats to launch a full military operation against Gaza are additional reminders about the intentions of the occupying power,” he added.Â
More than half a million Israelis live in over 120 illegal settlements built since the 1967 Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and East al-Quds (Jerusalem).Â
The Israeli settlements are considered illegal by the UN and most countries because those territories were captured by Israel in a war in 1967, and are hence seen as being subject to the Geneva Conventions, which forbids construction on occupied lands.Â
Thank You.
