RAMALLAH, (PIC)– PA chairman and Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas met with Israeli war minister Ehud Barak in the Jordanian capital Amman last Thursday, a senior PA official said.
The Chinese news agency Xinhua quoted the source as saying that the meeting was in the presence of Jordanian monarch King Abdullah II and tackled efforts to resume Palestinian-Israeli negotiations.
He said that the meeting, held behind closed doors, also touched on the PA attempt to win UN recognition of a Palestinian state.
Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu’s call for early elections and the expected political developments in Israel were also discussed, the source said.
Palestinian sources had said that Abbas visited Amman last Thursday for a medical check-up and to meet family members.
