David Macilwain (VIC) writes to Senator Doug Cameron re Gaza 17Nov12 November 17, 2012
Dear Senator Cameron,
In the last few days we have been beseiged by Israeli propaganda from all quarters, culminating in the statements by PM Gillard and Mr Abbott that “Israel has a right to self-defence”.
The sensible and balanced position you expressed in an interview on the ABC about this callous and cowardly attack on the imprisoned citizens of Gaza were thus notable, and I would like to express my sincere appreciation for your courage in voicing this single dissenting opinion.
While it seems churlish perhaps to ask that you do more, in the situation of unconditional support for the Zionist state and its current criminal leadership, the Australian government is taking a course that may involve its population in a regional war – and a war that is made more likely as a result of this support.
Consequently I am writing to you with a request that you register strong opposition to the government’s position in a statement to parliament as soon as possible this week. Â I am also sure that you have the support of a significant minority in this country, and perhaps even of the majority were Israel’s propaganda and hold over our government and media not so pervasive.
Thank You.
