Fay Waddington (QLD) writes to The Australian re 30 Aug 2012 article “Shop targeted for daring to sell Israel shoes” 23Jan13 PUBLISHED January 23, 2013

Press Council intervention ensured publication of this complaint about “Shop Targeted for Daring to Sell Israeli Shoes” in 30th August edition.

It falsely claimed 50 protestors employing mafia style tactics spent three hours outside the shop and threatened to return each weekend.

In reality 20 individuals gathered outside for no more than 10 minutes before two entered.

Those two, myself included, stayed only the few minutes necessary to deliver a courteous letter explaining the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign.

The letter included the words “respectfully ask that you stop importing and selling goods from Israel”.  Information about BDS is available on the Australians for Palestine website.

I participate in BDS actions because of the injustice of my own situation.  Because my maternal grandmother was born into a Jewish family I automatically have a right of return to land on the other side of the world to which I have no real connection.

An indigenous Palestinian’s granddaughter is dispossessed of that same land.
