JERUSALEM (Maâan) â Israeli police escorted staff of the Israeli municipality of Jerusalem on Sunday who delivered demolition warrants to four Palestinian families in the Silwan neighborhood of Jerusalem.
Ahmad Qarain, an official with the Wadi Hilweh Information Center in Silwan, said they stormed Silwan and hanged the demolition warrants on the outer doors of the houses.
Among the buildings slated for demolition, he said, is a house belonging to the ministry of endowment. The house was built before the annexation of Jerusalem and since then there has been no refurbishments, nor did the owners add any new structures.
Separately, Israeli forces broke into a children’s playground connected to the Madaa Silwan Creative Center. Heated arguments erupted between locals and Israeli officers after the latter imposed a curfew on some alleys preventing children from accessing their homes. The soldiers attempted to detain a cameraman who documented the events.
