On Sunday 12th May, Israel’s Opposition leader Shelly Yachimovich (Labor) met in Ramallah with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. They discussed the situation in the Middle East and the possibility of progressing beyond the stalemate in the talks between Israel and the Palestinians.
Yachimovich told Abbas it was necessary to start peace talks immediately and asked the Palestinian president to respond to American mediation efforts concerning resumption of talks.
According to a statement by Yachimovich’s office, the opposition leader said that “The Labor Party is committed to the peace process and the two-state solution,” Yachimovich told Abbas, adding that “Now is the time to… restart talks.”
The Labor chairwoman further stressed that her party was willing to support Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he were to promote peace with the Palestinians.
Thank You.
