NSW Labor MPs will use this week’s parliamentary sittings for a mass signing of the London Declaration on Combating Anti-Semitism.
The Prime Minister became the first Australian leader to put her name to the document last month.
Last week, federal Coalition parliamentarians made history when all 71 House of Representatives and 34 Senate members of the Coalition partyroom signed the declaration.
That move was sparked by anger at remarks reported by The Australian from Sydney Peace Foundation head Stuart Rees, who attacked Ms Gillard and the first Liberal to sign it, Christopher Pyne, for making a “childish, thoughtless but easily populist” gesture by signing the declaration.
NSW Opposition Leader John Robertson yesterday called the document “an important step in the ongoing efforts to eliminate anti-Semitism in all its forms”.
“I’m pleased to be joining leaders from around the world in formally signing the London Declaration,” he said.
