Bishop George Browning writes to ALP leadership in NSW supporting The Hon Shaoquett Moselmane 27May13 May 27, 2013

Dear……..

We of the Australia Palestine Advocacy Network are very grateful to politicians of all persuasions who seek to present both sides of a justice issue, nationally and internationally.  We are particularly grateful that it has been in the tradition of the Australian Labor Party to speak for oppressed people anywhere in the world.

A reader of the “Australian” may be led to believe that the only side to be presented in the difficult question of Palestine is the one Israel would want us all to hear.

I therefore write to make three requests:

1. That the Labor  Caucus remain faithful to its conscience, historically expressed, and seek to be informed in detail about the plight of Palestinians in their own land, the land currently occupied by Israel, land upon which illegal settlements continue to be built.

2. We totally understand the pressure that politicians experience from a well organised Israeli lobby. We therefore request that members of Caucus support those who present a different view, in particular that support be given to The Hon Shaoquett Moselmane.

3. That when an invitation is extended to members of Parliament to visit Israel that the invitation be accepted on the condition that equal time is spent in and with Palestinian communities.

With every good wish to you all in your important work.

Bishop George Browning
President
Australia Palestine Advocacy Network (APAN)
