Dear Mr Fahour,
I was appalled and, as an Australian, ashamed to learn that Australia Post has been a party to an act of blatant political propaganda in the service of a foreign power.
I refer to the joint stamp with Israel to commemorate the Battle of Beersheba in 1917.
Israel did not exist at this time & it was the Palestinian population that was the participant in these events.
The Arabs fought with the British & Australians, including Lawrence of Arabia, to secure a free Palestinian state. Their courage & loyalty were betrayed by the British & French after the war, as is common knowledge.
The Palestinians who fought with the Australians were ethnically cleansed by the newly created state of Israel in 1948.
This stamp issue is a blatant propaganda attempt by Israel to write the Palestinians out of history & you and your department have made Australia an accomplice in one of the greatest atrocities & injustices of the 20th Century.
This injustice persists, with some 5 million Palestinians confined in concentration camps & denied all civil, political & legal rights by the occupying Israeli forces.
I will refuse to use or accept such stamps.
