645769857Israel Air Force planes struck targets in the Gaza Strip early on Wednesday in response to rocket fire, the Israeli army said.

Hours after a rocket was fired from Gaza at southern Israel on Tuesday, Israeli jets attacked concealed rocket launchers in northern Gaza, the Israel Defense Forces said in a written statement.

According to a report in Palestinian news agency Maan, the Israeli strike was carried out in an agricultural area in Beit Hanoun. The agency reported that F-16 fighter jets fired two rockets, and didn’t cause any injuries.

The IDF reported accurate hits.

The Israeli defense establishment has said in the past that it won’t accept periodical rocket attacks becoming routine. “The IDF will not tolerate any attempt to harm Israeli citizens and security forces and will continue to act against anyone initiating terror against the state of Israel,” the army said in a statement.

The statement added that Israel holds Hamas, the ruler of Gaza, responsible for any act of aggression from the enclave.

The strike was a response to rocket fire on Tuesday near the southern town of Sderot, just as Israel began releasing 26 Palestinian prisoners before launching another round of peace talks with the Palestinians.

Israeli and Palestinian negotiating teams will meet in Jerusalem on Wednesday, following a preparatory meeting two weeks ago in Washington.
